ADDED signs an agreement with Valeo to expand Abu Dhabi's automotive industry

In order to enhance the automotive industry and produce electric and self-driving car components in the emirate, the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has teamed with international automotive supplier Valeo.

By fusing its cutting-edge technology and its commitment to sustainability in green cities, Valeo intends to investigate new avenues of development. The collaboration between ADDED and Valeo seeks to support the local startup electric car businesses as well as the industrial solutions development community.

The deal to design and manufacture parts for electric and self-driving cars is anticipated to improve smart and sustainable mobility in Abu Dhabi and support the growth of the city's transportation industry.

According to Arafat Al Yafei, executive director of ADDED's Industrial Development Bureau, "this cooperation to advance smart mobility and establish a technology hub for electric, autonomous car components in Abu Dhabi is in line with our initiatives to ensure that growth, sustainability, and cutting-edge technologies go hand in hand in all aspects of our socio-economic development."

The Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy specifically targets the transport sector, and among its efforts are those that use Industry 4.0's cutting-edge technology to accelerate the emirate's transition to a smart, circular, and sustainable economy.

As it aspires to become an auto centre, Abu Dhabi is building an electric vehicle assembly factory that will produce thousands of vehicles annually from its industrial zone and has hired the smart electric company NWTN.

According to Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi, a 25,000 square metre facility will be built in September 2022 and run by NWTN for the production, development, and testing of electric cars.

According to the agreement, NWTN's activities will initially have an annual capacity of 5,000 to 10,000 electric semi-knocked-down cars. In this method, the manufacturer partially disassembles a vehicle in the origin and reassembles it in a different nation.

The goal of Abu Dhab's smart digitalization strategy is to create an efficient and sustainable transportation industry that makes use of contemporary technology to better serve the local population. This is done by improving the effectiveness of the transportation network and fostering the transition to smart autonomous vehicles, which are both environmentally and socially responsible.
